Darfur NRF says destroyed Sudanese force near Kutum
The National Redemption Front (NRF)
Military Statement No. 16
The NRF totally destroyed a government military force of Janjaweed and army personnel near Kutum, North Darfur, Wednesday, 20 December 2006. 20 military vehicles, come of them are well equipped were captured by our forces. 15 other vehicles belonging to the enemy were destroyed. 35 Janjaweed and soldiers have surrendered in the attack to the NRF.
It has become obvious that the army soldiers are no longer willing to fight for Albsahir and have been joining the NRF in droves. Desertion of the government forces also included many who were once supporters of the Abuja fiasco. As a result, the government has now resorted to increased use of Janjaweed in its war against Darfur people.
The NRF draws attention of the public to Khartoum’s media hysteria and propaganda of recent days. Driven by despair, Khartoum now turns to inventing fake victories and outlandish claims, such as its alleged success in defending Kutum town and killing of several hundred NRF combatants. The NRF can enter Kutum, or for that matter Alfashir, any time it wants. Its mission of last Wednesday was however restricted to the attacking army force and not in any way planned to invade Kutum Town. The mission was accomplished to the letter.
