Sudan development conference to be held next March

Dec 23, 2006 (LONDON) — A conference on the development in the country and particularly in the southern Soudan will be held in Khartoum in March 2007, the Sudan development Program said.

It has been confirmed that the second Sudan Development Summit – the first event of its kind to take place in Khartoum – will now be taking place on 19-21 March 2007.The announce was made folowing a meeting between SDP Managing Director John Glassey and Riek Machar, Vice President of the Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS).

During the meeting Riek Machar sent information on the summit to all 30 GOSS Ministers and the 10 Governors of the Southern States, therefore ensuring that a very strong and high level GOSS delegation will be present at the summit in Khartoum, the SDP said.

The summit will look to draw on the success of the inaugural Sudan Development Summit, which took place in Dubai on 12-14 February 2006 and was responsible for over $460 million in contracts being signed between Sudanese and international companies, along with a number of ministerial and other trade agreements being concluded.

The meeting between Glassey and Machar took place in the southern city of Juba, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the objectives of the Sudan Development Program, primarily on attracting foreign investment into Sudan to facilitate the country’s development and provide the international business community with direct access to ministers and government officials.

The Sudan Development Program is the official program organised to promote the international development of the Republic of Sudan, supported throughout Sudan’s government ministries, state companies and business leaders from the private sector.
