Vice-President Taha appeals to EU for post-war assistance

NAIVASHA, Kenya, Dec 20, 2003 (SUNA) — First Vice-President Ali Uthman Muhammad Taha has affirmed the government’s keenness to reach a comprehensive and lasting peace agreement and urged the international community, specially the European Union, to contribute to the rehabilitation process in the post-war period.

This came when the first vice-president received here Friday Italian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs and head of European Union (EU) Troika delegation Mr Alfredo Mantica. Taha got acquainted with the outcome of the visit of the EU Troika delegation to Khartoum.

Mr Alfredo Mantica affirmed the EU concern with developments in Sudan, affirming the EU support to the ongoing peace process and its keenness on resuming development aid and contributing to the rehabilitation and resettlement of displaced people and refugees.
