Darfur tripartite mechanism to meet Sunday

Jan 13, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — The tripartite mechanism entrusted to follow up the implementation of the UN assistance packages is expected to meet Sunday at the headquarters of the African Union in Khartoum, the state-run SUNA reported.

The African Union Mission in Sudan Spokesperson, Nureddin Mezni, said that the meeting would continue reviewing the implementation of the first phase UN package to the African Union, pointing out that on Thursday some technical equipment have reached the town of El Fashir.

In the last Tripartite Committee mechanism on 26 December, it was agreed to deploy the first group of UN military advisers in the troubled Sudanese region of Darfur to assist the African Union force currently in operation there.

The fourth meeting was scheduled to take place on Wednesday 10 January but was postponed because of the visit of the UN Secretary General Envoy to Darfur visit to the country.
