Egypt supports Ghanaian presidency of the African Union
Feb 1, 2007 (ADDIS ABABA) — President Mubarak addressed a support message to Ghanaian president John Kufuor who is elected during the 8th African Union Summit as chairman of the pan African organization.
The message was conveyed by Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul- Gheit who said President Mubarak instructed him to inform the president of Ghana of Egypt’s support for the chairmanship by his country of the African summit to guarantee the success of the coming AU summit in Accra next July.
During its closing meeting yesterday, in Addis Ababa, the AU summit agreed on the hosting by Egypt of Africa-France summit in 2009.
The AU Summit adopted the following resolution: African heads of states called Tuesday for an immediate deployment of the African Union mission in Somalia.
At the end of their summit in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, the African leaders called on African states to contribute to forming the African Union force to spare Somalia a security vacuum after the withdrawal of Ethiopian troops.
