Sudanese presidency discuss Darfur authority, CPA implementation

Feb 3, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese president and his two deputies today examined the set up of Darfur interim authority and the implementation of Sudan peace agreement.

President Omar al-Bashir, the First Vice – President, Salva Kiir, and the Vice – President, Ali Osman Taha, have got acquainted with outcome of the consultations for formation of the Interim Authority in Darfur, in accordance with Darfur peace agreement.

The meeting got informed with the progress in formation of commissions in accordance with the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, approval of the Acts for the Civil Service Commission and the Council for the Political Parties’ Affairs and appointment of their membership in the coming period.

The State Minister at the presidency, Telar Reng Deng told the official SUNA that the coming period will witness designation of the Commission for Non- Muslims Rights in the National Capital, adding that a decree on the establishment of this commission was issued earlier.

He indicated that the coming meeting between the President and his two deputies on Tuesday will review a report on the performance of the Committee for the Borders between the North and the South, according to the borders of January 1st, 1956, a report of the Bank of Sudan on the change of currency, especially in south Sudan, and a third report on implementation of Joint Assessment Mission (JAM) projects and commitment of the donors to their pledges of Oslo Donors’ Conference.

According to the Presidency press Secretary Mahjoub Badri, the meeting between the President and his deputies on Saturday also discussed the outcome of the visit of the President of China to Sudan and its major support to the work in the energy, investment, trade and agricultural fields.

He said that the meeting underscored the importance of continuing cooperation with China for establishment of infrastructural and other projects in the country.

The presidency will review in the coming period a report on the security and military arrangements, which will be prepared by the Join Defence Council, the Commands of the Joint Integrated Units, the committee for cooperation between the two parties and other armed groups.
