Sudanese authorities release Al-Jazeera correspondent

DOHA, Dec 24, 2003 — The prosecution office of the Sudanese court in charge of crimes against the state this afternoon released Islam Salih, Al-Jazeera correspondent in Sudan, after presenting personal guarantees. The Sudanese National Security Directorate referred Islam Salih to the prosecutor-general yesterday on charges of tarnishing the reputation of the state and promoting false reports. The Sudanese security agencies closed the Al-Jazeera office in Khartoum and arrested correspondent Islam Salih a week ago.
