ONLF warns of Ogaden-wide Cholera outbreak

Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF)

ONLF Statement On Cholera Outbreak In Ogaden

Feb8, 2007 — The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) wishes to alert the international
community to the rapidly spreading outbreak of Cholera in the Ogaden. This
outbreak has already resulted in the deaths of dozens of people in eastern Ogaden
with over forty victims in the city of Qabri Dahare alone. If urgent medical
assistance is not furnished to the people of Ogaden to confront this outbreak
many more deaths will surely follow.

The EPRDF led Ethiopian regime has deliberately denied health agencies access to
much of Ogaden as a matter of policy. This is widely viewed by the people of
Ogaden as a form of punishment directed against the civilian population who have
sought nothing less than to determine their own future.

The ONLF wishes to make clear that all aid agencies are welcome in Ogaden and
encouraged to come to the immediate aid of the victims of this Cholera outbreak.

The ONLF calls on the World Health Organization (WHO), International Medical
Corps (IMC) as well as other international health organizations to come to the
urgent aid of the people of Ogaden who are facing a double tragedy of a Cholera
outbreak and the inhumane policies and practices of the EPRDF regime.
