South Sudan capital Juba to hold first graduation event since civil war

Graduation of Juba University students will take place in Juba for the first time since civil war broke out . An estimated 300 students are expected to graduate this time with 80per cent of them for diploma courses and the other 20per cent for the degree courses done at the University of Juba.

The graduation ceremony will take place on 10 February at the university premises.

According to the chairperson for the Juba University Equatoria Student Cultural Association, Kalisto Lado Faustino, some of the graduates originally came from the Khartoum branch. “This graduation is organized by the association to hold the graduation ceremony in another region rather than Khartoum, he adds.

The graduation ceremony is funded from support from elders and some of the university staff.

The association has been formed with a number of objectives, including promoting education in the whole of the Greater Equatoria Region . “The need for peaceful social interaction among the Sudanese has to be promoted and this is what we really want to have effective”, Kalisto Lado Faustino told the Juba Post. He also adds that Greater Equatoria should also promote a women’s association to represent the region.
