Sudan, neighbours agree not to back rebels

Feb 15, 2007 (CANNES) — Talks between Sudan and its neighbours Chad and Central African Republic ended on Thursday with an agreeement not to support rebels attacking each other’s territory, Sudanese Foreign Minister Lam Akol said.

Chad and Central African Republic accuse Sudan of supporting rebels launching cross-border attacks from Darfur, exacerbating ethnic frictions and displacing tens of thousands of people.

“There is a commitment in this agreement that each country will respect the sovereignty of the other countries and no country will support any rebellion within its territory,” Akol told reporters after the meeting.
