Federal authorities start collection of customs in South Sudan
Feb 27, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — The federal authorities have begun collection of customs in the southern states, while they also began collection of value-added taxes from hotels in Juba city.
The collection of customs’ fees began Yei towns and due to begin at the areas of Nimole and Kapoeta, the official SUNA reported.
The State Minister at the Ministry of Finance, Lual Deng, said that a team of the Customs Chamber is due to make a tour to Malakal, Bentiu, Wau, Bor, Yambiu, Yei, Maridi, Torit and Renk in south Sudan.
He said that the collection of customs in the Juba city is progressing satisfactorily.
At the celebration of the second anniversary of the CPA in Juba last January, Sudanese president al-Bashir accused the SPLM of hindering the establishment of Customs Service on the border with Ugandan and Kenya.
