NRF welcomes ICC prosecution of Darfur criminals
The National Redemption Front (NRF)
Press Release
March 2, 2007 — The National Redemption Front (NRF) welcomes ICC decision to put two Darfur criminals to trial and call upon the United Nations and the international community to withdraw recognition hitherto conferred on the government of Sudan.
The decision of the ICC Chief Prosecutor Mr. Moreno-Ocampo to charge two culprits with crimes against humanity in Darfur, February 27, 2007, is a turning point and has huge implications on development of Darfur crisis:
The NRF welcomes the ICC decision and its clear assertion that grave crimes including war crimes, mass killings and other forms of atrocities have been committed against the people of Darfur. The NRF urges the ICC Chief Prosecutor to continue his work and bring the remaining Darfur criminals to trial.
The NRF urges the Security Council and the international community to exert all necessary pressure on the Khartoum government to immediately hand over the named criminals to the ICC.
As ICC charges implicate two individuals, both of whom are connected to the government, the decision amounts to charging the entire government with the stated crimes. As a corollary to that, the current Khartoum government has lost its legal and moral ground to continue ruling the Sudan and the United Nations and the international community are, therefore obliged to withdraw recognition of Khartoum government.
The NRF calls upon the international community to double its efforts to improve living conditions in Darfur and to prevent aerial bombardment, burring of villages, rape and mass killings that are still going on in Darfur.
