Khartoum shuts down Jazeera office for good

KHARTOUM, Jan 01, 2004 (QNA) — The Sudanese security authorities have demanded the Khartoum government to withdraw the license granted to al-Jazeera tv channel to run an office in the country, the Arabic channel reported today.

The Doha-based ‘al-Jazeera’ TV quoted the Sudanese security information director as saying that his department has advised the national press and publication council in writing to withdraw the license granted to al-Jazeera office.

The Sudanese official accused the Arabic channel of promoting false reports about Sudan.

Al-Jazeera reminded viewers that Sudan state prosecution were still interrogating Islam Saleh, the director of its Khartoum office, which is still closed down under the orders of Sudanese security.
