SLM Minawi says Sudan police attacked Khartoum headquarters
Sudan Liberation Movement
PRESS STATEMENT
ATTACK ON SLM/A WOUNDED PEOPLE
On March 24, 2007, a combined force of Government Armed Forces, the police, and Security personnel, led by Police commissioner Dahab and General Ismat Abdurhaman of Sudan Armed Forces (and head of DPA Security Arrangement Implementation Committee/GoS side), using more than hundred military armored vehicles heavily armed with heavy weapons including tanks and heavy tear gas attacked a number of disabled SLM/A personnel who were waiting to be hospitalized, and their relatives (including mothers). Until this hour this coward and barbaric attack resulted into death of more than nine people including a mother and their two guards.
Many of the disabled were arrested. The police and the security forces are also waging a series of other arrest among the SLM/A members and supporters which so far numbered up to 75 people.
The Army and the police have also raided SLM/A Headquarters in Omdurman and tore off the SLM/A flag and took away many properties including computers and documents.
Ironically this incident took place whilst the Chairman of the SLM/A holding meeting with the two envoys of the UN and the AU at the presidential palace.
The SLM/A condemns in strongest term this irresponsible and barbaric attack which gives a clear evidence of violation of the DPA.
Mohamed Hamid (Derbain).
SLM/A military spokesperson
