Sudan’s peace negotiations see progress on wealth sharing: official
KHARTOUM, Jan 3, 2004 (Xinhua) — Sudan’s peace negotiations, currently taking place in East Africa country Kenya’s Nivasha, are making progress on the wealth-sharing file as the ad hoc committee settled most of the pending questions, local Omdurman Radio Saturday quoted a government official as saying.
Dardiri Mohamed Ahmed, a member of the negotiating Sudanese government delegation, told the radio that the ad hoc committee submitted a report on the reached settlements to Sudanese First Vice President Ali Othman Taha and rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) chief colonel John Garang.
It has been referred to the drafting committee working since last night on preparing the final form, he added.
According to the official, meetings are going on at the bilateral and technical levels on the file of the three marginalised areas – Apie, Nuba Mountains and south of the Blue Nile.
The two sides, for the first time in this round, may embark on discussing the power-sharing file, he said.
