Iran, Sudan to broaden bilateral ties

KHARTOUM, Jan 04, 2003 (IRIB) — Iran’s Minister of Sciences, Research and Technology Jafar Towfiqi and the Sudanese Minister of Science and Research Mubarak Majzub explored new avenues of broadening the bilateral ties on Saturday.

Majzub condoled Iranian government and nation on a deadly quake, which jolted Iran’s southeastern city of Bam on December 26, killing at least 35,000 people.

He touched on the bilateral relations and called for further expansion of Iran-Sudan cooperation in all areas.

He expressed the hope that already-signed trade and economic agreements by the two sides will help promote bilateral cooperation.

Expressing his satisfaction over the growing trend of Tehran-Khartoum relations, the Iranian official said Iran and Sudan share identical views regarding many regional and international developments.

Towfiqi referred to the long-standing relations between the two countries and said the Islamic Republic attaches importance to its ties with Sudan.

He expressed satisfaction over the fact that the two countries’ officials are determined to further promote bilateral cooperation in all spheres and on the major international issues.

Iran and Sudan will enjoy long-term cooperation due to cultural commonalities between the countries, he noted.

He said the talks between the Iranian and Sudanese officials have been increasingly positive in the past adding that appropriate measures have been adopted to deepen the scientific, cultural ties.

He asked the Sudanese minister to do his utmost in order to hold exhibitions in the two countries to get acquainted with each others’ cultural features.
