Darfur JEM holds talks with UN humanitarian chief, French envoy

JEM Meets De Coignac, the French Envoy and Mr. Homes, the UN Humanitarian Chief

March 27th in Abéché, Chad – In a significant development, JEM had two separate meetings with French Ambassador and Envoy to Sudan, Mr De Coignac and then with Mr. J. Holmes, Chief of the UN Humanitarian Commission.

Both of the meetings were described as cordial, frank and successful. The meetings covered several pressing issues, most important of which was the issue of IDPs, refugees and humanitarian assistance. The meetings dwelled at length at JEM’s role in the facilitation of humanitarian work, safety of NGO workers and getting humanitarian assistance to Darfur needy people. In that, JEM was positively disposed and has pledged cooperation with no reservation.

The meetings also discussed deployment of UN troops and the urgency of scaling down violence in Darfur. Moreover, the meetings also debated the need for speedy return to the negotiating table and adoption of peaceful means as the only viable road for overcoming Darfur crisis.

JEM assured both prominent guests to remain engaged and committed to finding a peaceful resolution to Darfur war.
