Lakes State welcomes 284 returnees back home

March 31, 2007 (RUMBEK) — There was flowing in of the returnees to Lakes State became the most joyous to local community in Rumbek since Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) was signed last two years ago. According to UNHCR report says that 95 arrive in from Central Africa Republic since the date of 21 to 24 of March 2007 to Rumbek.

The Lakes State Radio FM 98 reported that 55 returnees composed by women and children just arrive to Lakes on March 24, 2007 from Central Africa Republic. The second trip also came in from Central Africa Republic on March 21, 2007 which was composed by 40 people including children and old men.

The government of Lakes state had warmly highly welcomed her people back home with only statement call harmonization and integration to their local authority which had already took-shape.

The last trip of returnees was only composing of 94 people including children and elders” the teams just arrive to Rumbek on March 20, 2007 last week. Those refugees spent their most of their life in Kakuma refugees’ camps since 1992. All those 94 refugees are now currently stationed up at Deng Nhial primary school nearby Rumbek airstrip, eastern part of town. Some local leaders already pickup their people and remaining is a person who is not yet identify.

The government of Lakes State briefed her returnees about security issue on that arrival day at Rumbek airstrip” saying that security is now hundred per cent in Lakes State” although you move at night, there will be nothing that can harm you on your street’ please enjoy your road and stay safely with your family that you had really missed for so many years of civil war in Southern Sudan.

According to Philip Kot, Director of SSRRC organization in Lakes, says that we are very much really happy to see our lost brothers and sisters whom war had scared them to different world directions and today we are back home as well we must stand firms strong nation and to build a better Sudan for all Sudanese people anywhere.

The current situation of Lakes become huge to refugee due of heavy rainfall” there are no shelters to returnees that can protects rainfall. With little food provided by WFP and FAO to returnees that far day of their arrival got finish and UNHCR say that is not responsible any longer to supply food for the arrival returnees.
