Salva Kiir urges unity of Southern Sudanese

April 8, 2007 (JUBA) – “I would like to assure you that our only survival of continuality of our people through God the almighty is a firm unity among ourselves.” The president of Southern Sudan government said on Sunday.

President Kiir says without the unity among all communities in southern Sudan, the government of southern Sudan could not be able to fully implement the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). In fact, he adds, the CPA has brought to southern Sudanese, somehow, little freedom they are today enjoying in Juba, the capital of southern Sudan and other parts of southern Sudan.

President Kiir challenged southern Sudanese Christians to work in harmony as members of one family and to help those vulnerable people in need.

Speaking at St. Teresa Cathedral Kator Juba, Kiir noted that disunity has been used by Khartoum government and other enemies to divide the people of southern Sudan. Adding, disunity has been one of the issues that tend to tear southerners apart. However, he says, with the grace of god, the God fearing southern Sudanese should come together to overcome such evil plot.

President Kiir further acknowledged that there has been delay on the side of his government in implementation and delivery of vital services to the people, but assure the congregation that his government was concern like the citizens who are also concerned about whether there is corruption or not.

He said his government would soon fulfil the people’s expectation as they in the government are trying to put strong administrative measures in place that would observe transparent and accountability to the public. “Therefore, as a Christian, I need your prayer and advice in governing southern Sudan” remarks president Kiir.

He inform the hundreds of thousands congregation that GoSS is going to receive a very important person in the coming week, in present of the president of the republic of South Africa who will arrives Juba on April 11th 2007.That the people of southern Sudan are also privilege to receive the president of Ugandan and the deputy secretary of Untied State of America in the same weeks.

In this regard, I would like to remind you that our Juba capital town is not clean, therefore I appeal to each and every one of us here to take the challenge of keeping the town clean, Kiir request.

I would also like to assure you that Juba, the capital of southern Sudan would be receiving many head of states and some senior dignitaries coming to discuss issues related to southern Sudan empowerment and development; hence I urge all of us to work together in ensuring that our environment meets the international standard. Otherwise, no more begging from Khartoum to accord reception to head of states wishing to visits southern Sudan, Kiir declared.

Earlier, His grace Archbishop Lokudu Loro said Christians should be giving human expression to devine compassion to victims of violence, children, disabled and the aged who suffered from neglect and care for help.

The prelate further said the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ is the basic belief of Christianity that offers the reason for Christian’s faith, hope and courage, adding that Easter is the greatest feast in Christianity. Unite with the suffering southern Sudanese and the entire world. More than 2000 Christians renewed their baptismal promises as faithful Catholics in southern Sudan.
