Joint Statement by GOS and SPLM/A announcing an agreement on wealth sharing
Text of statement in English read by Sudan People’s Liberation Movement spokesman Pagan Amum, broadcast live on Sudanese TV on 5 January.
Joint statement by the government of Sudan and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Sudan People’s Liberation Army:
Having met in Naivasha between 6 December 2003 and 5 January 2004, and having taken up the division of wealth in pursuit of a comprehensive agreement that will ensure just and durable peace in our country, we are glad to inform our people all over the Sudan and the international community that we have reached an agreement on wealth sharing.
The details of the agreement will be made available to the public. We would say, however, that it does cover the division of oil and non-oil revenues, the management of oil sector, the monetary authority in our country during the interim period and the reconstruction of the south and other war-affected areas.
We are determined to build on this important agreement until we reach a comprehensive peace agreement in the near future.
We offer our heartfelt gratitude to the Republic of Kenya and IGAD [Inter-Governmental Authority on Development] countries and to Gen Lazarus Sumbeiywo, IGAD special envoy, and to all observers and nations for their support. Thank you.
