Chinese Vice FM discusses Darfur with US official

April 9, 2007 (BEIJING) — Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo on Monday evening talked via telephone with US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte.

Both sides discussed the situation in Darfur, a war-torn region in western Sudan, and especially on how to solve the Darfur issue through persistent political and diplomatic efforts.

Negroponte is to arrive here next Thursday on three-day visit to Sudan.
the US official will hold talks with Sudanese Foreign Minister Lam Akol on Darfur crisis. He is also expected to visit Darfur and South Sudan and to meet a number of government officials there.
