Malaysia proposes to fabricate halal product with Sudan
April 16, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today proposed that Malaysia and Sudan collaborate in the fabrication and the promotion of halal products and services.
The Malaysian Prime called for bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the Hala industry. He extended his personal invitation to Sudanese business community to come to Malaysia and participate in the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) from May 9 to 13 and World Halal Forum on May 7 and 8 in Kuala Lumpur next month.
Abdullah, who is on the second day of a three-day official visit to Sudan to further ties, particularly in the areas of trade and investment, said the possibilities in this regard are substantial, not merely in the context of the global Muslim community but also the non-Muslim world.
“We know that halal products and services are readily accepted everywhere so long as they meet global standards of quality, product and service integrity,” he said in his keynote address at the Malaysia-Sudan Business Forum here.
“Of course, the halal products and services must also conform to the market requirements pertaining to safety standards and care for the environment,” he said.
In this context, the Malaysian Halal Standard and the Malaysian Halal Logo reflect the meeting of requirements of Syariah laws and regulations pertaining to halal products and services, Abdullah said.
It also meet marketplace requirements, such as standard certification, Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Hygiene Practice, Codex Alimentarius and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) pertaining to food safety, he said.
MIHAS, which is now being held in Malaysia annually, has become an important platform for promoting business and trade in halal products and services, Abdullah said.
For the fourth consecutive year, MIHAS will display halal products and services from more than 500 companies worldwide, he said.
He also said that MIHAS and World Halal Forum will provide an excellent opportunity to promote and strengthen the application of halal precepts throughout the entire value chain of products.
The term Halal is used to refer to meat that has been slaughtered and prepared in accordance with Islamic law.
