Police, students’ tussles in Khartoum University

May 2, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — The police yesterday arrested a number of Khartoum University students after intercepting a procession they had staged to submit a memorandum to the interior Minister demanding release of some students previously arrested in Neilain University.

Khartoum University walk ways and gates yesterday witnessed intensive presence of police troops and patrols to block any movement to the outside. The police meanwhile arrested a considerable number of the protesting students.

Students later interviewed by Sudan Tribune revealed that the majority of the protesters were either independent of affiliated to Popular Congress Party.

Several students had previously been arrested after a student affiliated to the NCP was killed in Neilain University. Up to the date of this report, the arrested students have neither been released nor brought to trial.
