US envoy in Sudan to be appointed ambassador to Indonesia

May 3, 2007 (WASHINGTON) — Cameron R. Hume, charge d’affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Sudan, is being nominated to become ambassador to Indonesia, the White House announced Thursday.

Hume previously was ambassador to South Africa and Algeria and has served as a political officer in U.S. embassies in Syria and Lebanon. He also has served four tours in the U.S. delegation to the United Nations and is a former deputy inspector general of the State Department.

At Jakarta, Hume will replace John A. Heffern, who has been charge d’affaires since Ambassador B. Lynn Pascoe left in February to become undersecretary-general for political affairs of the United Nations.
