The abduction took place April 29th 07 when five women left Saliaa town, north Darfur for a nearby market. The women were seized by a group of Janjaweed and subjected to torture and several rounds of rape before taking to the camp of the Janjaweed leader known as Umda Ibrahim Amsana in Wadi Kaja. Amsana decided to keep all captive women under detention at his camp.
One of the captives managed to escape and make it back to her home. She is Mariam Ali Yahia, 28 years old and a mother of three children.
Details of other captives are as follows:
– Khebaisha Abdalla Dawood, 40 and a mother of 6 children
– Umkasawi Yahia Adam, 45 and a mother of 11 children
– Dahabia Mohamed Salih, 15 and daughter of Umkasawi, above
– Amma Matar Khatir, 25 and a mother of one baby
We appeal to the UN, EU, USA, Human Rights Organization, ICG and all other international organizations to intervene and put an end to Janjaweed atrocities in Darfur. We appeal for an urgent deployment of UN troops to end the suffering of women in Darfur.
