Ruling NCP, SPLM meet to discuss peace agreement

May 12, 2007 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s main political parties of the government of national unity meet since Saturday to discuss implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed two years ago to end north-south civil war.

The joint executive committee between the National Congress Party (NCP) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) held a meeting Saturday 12 May]that discussed the outstanding issues from the committee’s previous session, concerning the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).

The meeting, held Saturday at the general secretariat of the council of ministers, discussed the file of the national trade unions and associations, the file of standards and metrology for the local, export and import products, besides regulation of the specialized professions.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Advisor Mustafa Osman Ismail today disclosed that the file of the White Nile Petroleum Company now operating in the South will be discussed within the coming days at joint talks between the two partners.

The meeting is co-chaired by Vice-President of the Republic Ali Osman Mohamed Taha and Vice-President of the Government of Southern Sudan Dr Riek Machar The committee is to continue its sessions at the Friendship Hall in Khartoum Sunday 13 May.
