Egypt arrests Sudanese attempting to cross to Israel
May 17, 2007 (RAFAH) — Egyptian security agencies foiled a bid by four Sudanese, including a child, to infiltrate into Israel on Thursday.
The four Sudanese refugees attempted to sneak into Israel near the southern Rafah crossing.
One of the infiltrators was injured when security forces opened fire after they refused to heed a call to stop.
The injured was rushed to hospital for treatment.
An investigation has been opened into the incident.
The arrested admitted that they were trying to sneak into Israel to seek jobs.
Since three year, there are 330 Sudanese refugees who succeeded to cross to Israel from Egypt.
Their presence in Israel is a matter of concern for the human rights activists there because Israeli authorities consider them as citizens of an enemy state representing potential security risks.
