October 31, 2021 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s military rulers expelled the British ambassador after statements denouncing the coup d’état.

In a video released on Friday, the British Ambassador to Khartoum Giles Lever condemned the military coup and called for the release of political detainees, saying that the military authorities bear the responsibility for their safety.

Speaking in Arabic, he further called to respect Sudanese right to demonstrate peacefully.

“The Sudanese authorities have ordered the British Ambassador Giles Lever, to leave the country within 21 days,” reported Asharq TV on Saturday.

Lever who was appointed last March presented his credentials to the Chairman of the Sovereign Transitional Council on 4 October 2021 three days after his arrival to Khartoum.

On the 25th of October, General Abdel Fattah arrested Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok and several government senior officials as well as political leaders and dissolved the transitional government institutions.

The military takeover was condemned by the region and the international community. Also, the junta was urged to restore the transitional government and release the political detainees.

Sudanese massively took o the streets across the country on Saturday to show their rejection of the coup and support for civilian rule.
