SPLM-N calls to release Hamdok’s political adviser
October 31, 2021 (KHARTOUM) – The SPLM-N led by Malik Agar Sunday called for the immediate release of the Movement’s Deputy Chairman Yasir Arman who is also the political adviser of the prime minister.
Arman is among the leaders of the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) detained after the military coup on 25 October.
His detention is a clear violation of the Juba Peace Agreement.
The peace signatory group, on Sunday, sent a letter sent to the regional and international peace guarantors including the African Union, IGAD, EU, Troika countries, UN agencies in Sudan as well as accredited ambassadors to Khartoum.
“We in the leadership and membership of the SPLM-N – SRF continue to express our deep and serious concern regarding the integrity and health conditions of Mr YASSIR ARMAN, the Deputy Chairperson of the movement and political Advisor of HE. Dr Abdalla Hamdok, the Prime Minister of Sudan,” reads the letter seen by the Sudan Tribune.
The letter pointed to the national and international calls for the release of political detainees ignored by the military junta.
“Therefore, we renew our request for his immediate release,” stressed the statement.
The group’s leader Malik Agar was in the Blue Nile state to follow the implementation of the peace agreement when the military coup occurred in Khartoum.
It is not clear if he regained the Sudanese capital or remained in Ullu the group stronghold area near the border with South Sudan.
The SPLM-N Agar leadership and Arman’s family have been denied access or communication with him. Also, they ignore his whereabouts.
Unverified sources say that the intelligence service of the Rapid Support Forces militiamen detains the political leaders in their jails in Khartoum.
