Sudan re-arrests NCP leader
November 1, 2021 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese authorities re-arrested the leader of the disbanded National Congress Party Ibrahim Ghandour, hours after his release.
Ghandour was re-arrested on Monday following his release on Monday according to his family.
Ghandour had previously been arrested upon the request public prosecution unit of the Empowerment Removal Committee.
His release was ordered by the former attorney general Mubarak Osman who was relieved hours after his decision to release Ghandur and other Islamists security officials.
Since Sunday several sources said that al-Burhan was not informed of the contested decision to release the NCP leader.
Al-Burhan has suspended the Empowerment Removal Committee and arrested its chairman and member of the Sovereign Council Mohamed al-Faki and its member Wajdi Saleh.
The ministry of information loyal to Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok said on Sunday that the release of the Sudanese Islamists “clearly reveals the political cover of the coup and its true ideological orientations”.
