Sudan’s FFC rejects negotiations with military component

November 1, 2021 (KHARTOUM) – The Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) coalition Monday rejected any negotiation with the military council while several mediators have proposed a plan to form a cabinet of technocrats led by Hamdok.

The FFC Central Leadership Council held a meeting to discuss the ongoing efforts to settle the political crisis after the military takeover and the dissolution of the transitional authority.

In a statement released after the meeting, the Council said they agreed to topple the coup d’état and to hold accountable the putschists for the human rights violations including the killing of peaceful protesters.

The FFC groups further required the release of political detainees and the re-establishment of the constitutional order before 25th October.

“The reinstatement of the Prime Minister and his government (…) in accordance with the Constitutional Document,” stressed the statement before to “Categorically reject any dialogue or negotiation with the (military) regime”.

The statement comes amid several efforts by the South Sudan, UNITAMS and Sudanese figures to bring al-Burhan and Abdallah Hamdok to agree on a consensus leading to end the current crisis.

Reuters reported that the two sides are considering a proposal to give Hamdok full executive powers and appoint a cabinet of technocrats. It is not clear if the FFC has been consulted on it.

The proposal also provides to form a three-person honorary Sovereign Council. While the political parties, rebel groups, and the military component would be represented in parliament.

“The military would continue to lead a Security and Defence Council,” further said Reuters.

South Sudanese Presidential Adviser Tut Gatluak on Monday said that al-Burhan agreed to meet Hamdok to reach a final agreement, after what he would address the Sudanese people.

Gatluak further said that all the political detainees would be released.
