SPLM-N Agar denies withdrawal from Sudan’s peace agreement
November 2, 2021 (KHARTOUM) – The SPLM-N under the leadership of Malik Agar Tuesday reiterated its adherence to the Juba Peace Agreement and dismissed rumours about its withdrawal.
On Monday rumours spread on social media that Malik Agar decided to withdraw from the peace agreement signed in Juba on 3 October 2020.
The rumour came out after the detention of the SPLM-N Deputy Chairman Yasir Arman who is also the political adviser of Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok.
Arman is the only former rebel leader to be arrested by the military after the coup d’état.
“The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North adheres to the Constitutional Document and the Peace Agreement,” reads a statement released on Tuesday.
“There is no truth to the rumours that it has breached covenants,” it further reaffirmed.
In a letter on 31 October, The SPLM-N requested the regional and international peace guarantors to press Khartoum to release Arman who has been under detention since 25 October.
The statement denounced the arrest of Sudanese officials and political leaders saying it is a clear breach of the covenants signed agreement, values and goal of the December Revolutions.
“The Movement requests the military authority to release all detainees and to immediately restore the (transitional institutions established) before the coup of 25t October 2021,” added the statement.
Agar who is a member of the Transitional Sovereign Council is in the Blue Nile state. However, several SPLM-N leaders are still in the capital including Buthaina Dinar Minister of Federal Government.
