November 9, 2021 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu (SPLM-N al-Hilu) Tuesday supported calls to reject negotiations with the military component in Sudan.

The Sudanese Professionals Association (SPA) and the Resistance Committees call for protests on 13 November against the resumption of partnership with the military component and escalation of protests to topple down the military rule.

Mohamed Youssif al-Mustafa, head of the SPLM-Nin the government-controlled areas in statements to Al-Jazeera TV expressed their support to these calls for protests against the military component saying that they are the ones who violated this partnership during the past two years.

“Facts have proven that the military component is the one who does not want this partnership because they have always violated it and worked to monopolize power and decisions,” said al-Mustafa.

He added that the decision to break up the civilian-military partnership was from the army.

“Therefore what is being negotiated,” he asked.

On October 25, the commander in chief of the Sudanese army Abdel Fattah al-Burhan declared a state of emergency in the country, dissolved the transitional government, relieved the state governors, and arrested Prime Minister Hamdok, some of his advisers, political leaders, ministers and senior other officials.

The coup took place after calls by FFC political leaders to hand over the chairmanship of the collegial presidency to the civilian component and to implement security sector reforms to terminate the economic activities of the army and its militias.

The SPLM-N figure admitted that Hamdok’s government was weak and partisan, pointing out that the street does not want a partisan government, but a “strong and vigilant civilian government” that implements the popular demands.

He added that one of the mistakes that were made by the Hamdok government was that they allowed the army to tighten its grip on power.

He further stressed that experience proved that the current military component worked to obstruct the implementation of the goals of the transitional period.

Last June, the Sudanese government and the SPLM-N failed to sign a framework agreement paving the way for a peace agreement in South Kordofan due to a disagreement on the extent of separation between religion and state despite the signing of a declaration of principle in this respect.

It is worth noting that al-Burhan signed a declaration of principle with Abdelaziz al-Hilu in March 2021, on the separation between the state and religion, despite a previous similar agreement between Hamdok and al-Hilu in September 2020.
