Sudanese president receives phone call from US envoy over peace progress

KHARTOUM, Jan 13, 2004 — Yesterday evening the president of the republic, Lt-Gen Umar al- Bashir, received a telephone call from the US presidential envoy for peace in Sudan.
During the call, President All-Bashir briefed the US presidential envoy for peace, John Danforth, on the government’s stance on the pending issues in the peace process.
For his part, the US envoy praised the government and the SPLM’s [Sudan People’s Liberation Movement] stances on the peace talks in Sudan and called for an exchange of continuos efforts to reach a final peace agreement.
