Sudanese minister blames opposition party, Israel, SPLM for violence in west

The minister of internal affairs, Maj-Gen Eng Abd-al-Rahim Muhammad Husayn, has said the visit of the president of the republic, Lt-Gen Umar al-Bashir, to Egypt, which is scheduled to take place during the current month, comes in the framework of sustaining bilateral ties as well as discussing Egypt’s role in supporting Sudan in the post-peace stage.[Passage omitted]

At the same time, the minister of internal affairs strongly criticized the [opposition] Popular National Congress [PNC] led by DR Hasan al-Turabi, blaming it for the violence in Darfur, in western Sudan.

He accused Israel of being behind the same violence, and having a main role in these events, pointing out that contact between [western] rebel leaders and Israeli officials was a well known fact.

The minister also accused the SPLM [Sudan People’s Liberation Movement], led by John Garang, of being behind the revolt in Darfur.[Passage omitted.]
