Important figures of NCP expected to defect to SPLM in South Sudan

May 26, 2007 (AWEIL) —A group of National Congress Party (NCP) senior officials will hold a groundbreaking press conference in NBEG Capital Aweil tomorrow at 3 P.M. Sudan local time.

According to Sudan Independent Investigators and Researchers (SIIR) Group among others, the following will announce their defection from NCP to Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM): 1. Hon. Dhieu Mathok, 2. Hon. Abraham Autiak, 3. Hon. Baak Abu Ajaaj, 4. Hon. Gabriel Ker, 5. Hon. Deng Kerkon.

The above officials, all citizens of NBEG, will be joined by their junior officials and supporters, who will also join SPLM in the conference. Some say here that the move is going to be a mother of all defections in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State since Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) was signed in 2005.

“People here are in agreement that tomorrow will be a memorable day amongst members of SPLM in general and citizens of Aweil in particular, for it will witness a return to the fold by sons and daughters of the marginalized peoples. “If it’s not a mother of all defections in NBEG, I don’t know what it’s,” commented a festive, enthusiastic observer in Aweil Town roughly 17 hours before a press conference.

SIIR Group also said monitoring similar political developments in other South Sudan states, especially Warrap and Western Bahr el Ghazal states.
