US envoy to meet Sudanese vice-president, SPLM leader 13 January

KHARTOUM, Jan 13, 2004 — US presidential peace envoy, ex-Senator John Danforth, will today hold meetings with the head of the government delegation, the first vice-president, Ali Uthman Muhammad Taha, and the SPLM [Sudan People’s Liberation Movement] leader, Dr John Garang.
Meanwhile, the British peace envoy to Sudan, Alan Goulty, held meetings with the two negotiating leaders yesterday. The meetings focused on how to speed up the peace talks and reach a [final] peace agreement as soon as possible.[Passage omitted.]
