Sudan Rejects Idea of Paris Conference on Darfur Issue

Khartoum, June 12 (SUNA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has affirmed Sudan rejection to the idea of holding Paris Conference and its items, explaining that France did not make contacts or consultation with Sudan in the context of its preparation for this conference. In a statement it issued Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry said that the debate on Darfur is a matter which concerns Sudan, adding that the outcome of this meeting will be useless without the agreement and blessing of Sudan. The statement stated that the recent Tripoli meeting has approved a document on unification of initiatives and drawn a map for reaching peace through negotiations and reactivating the political solution for Darfur issue, through the sponsorship of the African Union and the United Nations, represented in their envoys Dr. Salem Ahmed Salem and Jan Eliasson. The Foreign Ministry assured Sudan keenness to solve Darfur issue realize security and stability in Darfur. The statement reflected Sudan call on the international community and the peace – loving countries to reactivate the initiatives for political solution. Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry described the recent visit of the French Foreign Minister, Bernard Kouchner, to Sudan as fruitful and focused on discussion of the situation in Darfur and ways to achieve security and stability in the region. The Foreign Ministry explained that the Sudanese and French parties agreed on the understanding agreements of Addis Ababa and Abuja in last November, besides the Tripoli agreement which was reached on April 29, 2007. The statement indicated that the Sudanese party has informed the visiting French Foreign Minister about its rejection to the idea of holding Paris conference on Darfur issue.
