Hamdok directs to investigate police attack on Khartoum hospital
December 1, 2021 (KHARTOUM) – Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok once again directed the police to carry out an investigation into attacks on two hospitals in central Khartoum to arrest wounded protesters.
On November 30, the police forces stormed the Fedail and Al-Faisal hospitals, which are close to Al-Qasr Street, where Sudanese demonstrated to reject a deal Hamdok struck with the Sudanese army commander in chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
Clashes between police and protesters injured 98 people, according to an independent Sudanese medical group.
Hamdok on Wednesday was briefed by the police leaders about the demonstrations of November 30, said a statement released by his office.
“The Prime Minister directed the police forces to exercise the highest degree of professionalism in protecting peaceful processions,” reads the statement.
He further instructed to carry out “an immediate investigation into the police attack of a hospital and the arrest of an injured person.”
Activists said the police arrested some of the injured from inside Al-Faisal Hospital and also threw tear gas canisters inside the overcrowded emergency room.
The Deputy Head of the European Union Mission in Sudan, Daniel Weiss, posted a video showing the police and Rapid Support Forces arresting someone from inside the hospital beating him while he was crying.
“It is unacceptable that IHL (the international humanitarian law) and Human Rights violations continue in Sudan,” Weiss said.
Hamdok had sacked the former police chief and his deputy for their responsibility in the brutal crackdown on peaceful protesters.
The head of the Sovereign Council Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan earlier accused the police forces of killing protesters.
43 demonstrators were killed and more than a thousand others were injured, during the protests organized by the resistance committees against the military coup led by the army chief on October 25.
