December 5, 2021 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s former Industry Minister Ibrahim al-Sheikh said that senior Sudanese officials have failed to cancel a travel ban preventing him from leaving the country.

Ibrahim al-Sheikh leading member of the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) who had been under arrest for more than a month was barred from travelling to Cairo on Saturday, December 4.

On Sunday, he disclosed having had requested Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok and Member of the Sovereign Council and leader of the Sudanese Revolutionary Front Hadi Idris to intervene in order to end the travel ban.

“I contacted a member of the Sovereign Council, Hadi Idris, and I also called Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok, in the hope that they have the authority to cancel the ban, but it seems that they were unable to do anything until the plane took off,” he said.

The Sheikh said that al-Burhan was behind the travel ban, stressing that his release on bail did not prevent him from leaving the country.

Al-Sheikh is indicted of inciting the army to rebel against al-Burham.

Previously he said he wanted to see his sister who is very sick in a hospital in the Egyptian capital.

The FFC, which co-signed the transitional constitutional declaration with the military component, rejects a political agreement between the head of the Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Hamdok on November 21.

Hamdok is accused of legitimizing the coup as the military now control the country.

The FFC leading member said that the prime minister still has the opportunity to abandon supporting the coup leaders and re-join the democratic forces in their efforts to restore the civilian-led government in Sudan.

“Hamdok must admit that what happened is a coup and abide by the will of the street,” he added.
