SPLM-N’s Agar dismisses rumours of rift with his deputy
December 8, 2021 (KHARTOUM) – Malik Agar, head of the SPLM-North Wednesday denied reports that his deputy, Yasir Arman would quit the Movement soon over an internal rift.
After Arman’s release from jail on November 22 following a coup led by Gen al-Burhan rumours circulated on social media that the SPLM-N was about to establish a new political group.
On Wednesday, the Alyoum Altali newspaper said that Agar is preparing for changes in the SPLM-N leadership and that Arman is expected to resign from his position and leave the group in anticipation of decisions that the former would take soon.
In response to these allegations, Agar issued a statement on Wednesday evening where he referred to an “insidious news article” published by the newspaper claiming that his “comrade” and deputy in Arman, will leave the SPLM due to internal disputes.
“Accordingly, I confirm that this news is false and that what unites me with Comrade Yasir is more than what divides us, and those who are waiting for a rift or a difference between us will wait a long time,” wrote Agar.
He added that he and Arman have shared “bright and lean years”, the New Sudan’s vision, peripheral areas issues and the daily political battles.
“The future of Sudan, the issues of democratic transition and the achievement of the SPLM goals are the biggest reason for us to agree and not separate,” he stressed.
Arman who also served as the political adviser of the prime minister was the only former rebel leader arrested by the coup leaders on October 25.
According to an opinion article he released two days ago, Arman had been accused by the military intelligence of inciting the army to rebel against al-Burhan. However, he was freed without any charges.
