Kenyan forces cross into Somalia to search for officers’ killers

June 16, 2007 (NAIROBI) — Kenyan security forces have crossed into Somalia to search for suspects in the killing of two Kenyan policemen, a senior police officer said Saturday.

The Kenyan contingent will receive help from Somali and Ethiopian security forces, Northeastern Province police chief Antony Kibuchi said.

“There is a very big operation going on there,” said Kibuchi, who declined to give the number of Kenyan forces in Somalia.

The two police constables disappeared Sunday while on a foot patrol at the northeastern tip of Kenya, which borders Ethiopia and Somalia. Ethiopian and Somali security forces, together with more than 100 Kenyan soldiers, paramilitary police and wildlife rangers, found their bodies on the border with Somalia on Thursday.

An autopsy showed the policemen were tortured and possibly killed Tuesday.
