Sudan expels Libyan diplomat
By Wasil Ali
June 26, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — Reports from Khartoum indicate that the Sudanese government asked the Libyan consul Abdel Razak Ali Al Drokhi to leave the country.
The Libyan ambassador to Khartoum said he did not know the reason behind Khartoum’s decision to expel the diplomat.
The move is believed to be in retaliation to a similar decision taken by the Libyan authorities earlier this year.
The Sudanese foreign ministry however said it was not aware of such a decision.
Relations between Khartoum and Tripoli has been strained after the latter expressed dissatisfaction over Saudi mediation efforts in Sudan’s dispute with Chad.
The Libyan leader described the agreement signed in Saudi Arabia between Sudan and Chad as “laughable”.
