Khartoum IDPs urge South Sudan to shoulder repatriation expenses
By Isaac Vuni
June 29, 2007 (JUBA) — The displaced chiefs of southern Sudan in Khartoum have, today, appeal to the government of southern Sudan to immediately take charge of repatriating Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their respective sates.
Speaking during a courtesy call to chairlady of Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly specialized committee of Human Rights and Humanitarian affairs, MP Margaret Peter Abudi, today, IDPs representatives said their communities in Khartoum are being constantly intimidated by Khartoum security including landlords.
The chiefs expressed fears that UN and agencies designated to repatriating IDPs from Khartoum are very slow, hence they demanded for GoSS intervention through the office of Human Rights and Humanitarian affairs GoSS assembly. Adding that ferry beaches for transporting IDPs to Greater Upper Nile and Greater Equatoria are poorly maintained
The IDPs chief further proposed that repatriation responsibility be given to state governors to enable them organize speedy and timely repatriation that would allow returnees to effectively participate in the national census scheduled for November this year.
They cited positive action of Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Dut Biar, whom they said has repatriated more that 300,000 IDPs from Khartoum and urges other governors to emulate his patriotic move.
MP Margaet Peter thanks the chiefs for their concern and promised to forward their complaint to GoSS and to government of national unity through minister of Human Rights, Kosti Manibe.
The chiefs messes, Award Jada Lako of Greater Equatoria states, Galuk Bicoh of Upper Nile state, Deng Machong of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, and Deng Yok of Warrap state.
In a separate development, the constitutional case hearing of Eastern Equatoria state has been adjourn for July 4th in order to give opportunity for the defendant councilors to respond to the written statement of plaintiffs advocate.
Granting adjournment, presiding president of the Supreme Court, Justice Ruben Madol said such written remarks would help the court to make a fair ruling.
Justice Madol say constitutional case is not secret but he caution the plaintiffs advocate and defendant to refrain from using media to preempt court ruling

Khartoum IDPs urge South Sudan to shoulder repatriation expenses
I will first congratulate the Governor of Northern Bar el gazelle State of his patriotic move to repatriate the IDPS in and around Khartoum. It should be governor’s work to assess how many IDPS each state have in Khartoum camps and base on the assessability the report should be given to the central government in Juba to release funds to the governors for repatriation. I think this would make every speedy repatriation of IDPS in the North of the country. This repatriation has more to do with political gain rather than their individual social welfare and if the politicians fail to endorse this than they will have something to lose in the nearer future,be it the general elections or self determination schedule for 2009 and 2011 respectively. The repatriation of South Sudanese alone is as crucial as the right for self- determination for South Sudanese people. Also we must prepare for something very sinister because the Sudan government is brewing every bitter alcohol and we will be force to drink from it whether you drink or not. Always remember that, our unity is our survival. God bless South Sudan

Khartoum IDPs urge South Sudan to shoulder repatriation expenses
The action taken by the Governor of Northern Bhar El Gazal, Dut Biar to repatriate his state IDPs is a crucial breakthrough and an awaking call to the rest of our governors in South Sudan.
The said South Sudan IDPs have been living in stacked camps for over two decades, and their lives have usally been at stake through massive intimidation and harrassment by the regime in Khartoum.
Now, it’s the responsiblility of our respective governors in the South to help and repartriate the IDPs to the South Sudan.
I, as one of the South Sudanese would be happy if our governors can rescue our people’s situation by organizing funds to repartriate the IDPs to their respective states.
