DUP, SPLM discuss democratic process, Darfur

Cairo, July 5 (SUNA) –Leader of the Democratic Unionist Party and the Secretary General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) have discussed democratic process in the country and the resolution of Darfur crisis.

pagan_amum.jpgI a meeting held in the Egyptian capital, the leader of DUP, Mohamed Osman al-Mirghani and Secretary General of the SPLM, Pagan Amum discussed the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the democratic transformation in the country.

The two parties urged a swift change of laws transgressing the CPA and the interim constitution particularly laws related to the state security apparatus, the press. They also agreed on the need to work together to enhance the unity and to avoid the separation of the south.

Al-Mirghani affirmed readiness of his party to cooperate with the SPLM to find a political solution to Darfur crisis and achieve peace in the region. Also, he briefed Amum on his initiative for the unification of the national ranks.

The DUP and the SPLM are both members of the National Democratic Alliance.

Amum is currently visiting Cairo to hold talks with the Egyptian officials as part of the cooperation between Government of Southern Sudan and Egypt.
