Press Release

Sudan Development Summit Confirmed for 4-6 December 2007 in Khartoum

July 20, 2007 — The Sudan Development Program is delighted to announce that the Sudan Development Summit has been confirmed to take place at the Khartoum International Fairground on 4-6 December 2007.

Confirmation of the summit – organised to highlight Sudan’s enormous potential as a trade and investment destination and demonstrate that it is now “open for business” – comes following a series of consultations with the Sudanese Ministry of Investment and the Unity Government of Sudan, who have affirmed their commitment to the summit and its objectives.

The summit will be an historic event where leading international companies and investors will attend with the primary intention of meeting with government ministries and attending Sudanese private sector companies in order to form partnerships.

As the largest country in Africa blessed with a sound liberalised macro economy, Sudan has great potential as a trade and investment destination. The government is warmly encouraging the country’s private sector, with the country’s burgeoning oil industry the catalyst for its economic growth.

The summit will take place on a number of levels, including key note panel presentations from government officials and senior business figures, one-to-one meetings, industry-specific workshops and an international exhibition. Sectors covered will include oil and gas, infrastructure, agriculture, mining, transport, education, healthcare, technology and security.

The event has the highest level of support and representation from the Government of Sudan, with Sudanese Ministers at both state and federal level attending what looks sure to be a hugely successful summit.
