Sudanese human rights body calls for creating monitoring committee in west

KHARTOUM, Jan 20, 2004 — The Advisory Council on Human Rights, has asked to set up a committee which would be responsible for gathering information on human rights issues in Darfur [western Sudan] and pass it on to the international community.
During its emergency session held yesterday and attended by the minister of justice, Ali Muhammad Uthman Yasin, the council was briefed on the outcome of the situation in Darfur, by representatives from the police force, Sudanese intelligence, and the crisis committee at the Ministry of External Relations.
