Sudanese Communist leader urges large participation in Darfur resolution
August 9, 2007 (NYALA) — The secretary general of the Sudanese Communist Party Mohamed Ibrahim Nugud, requested a solution to the Darfur crisis through the participation of all the Darfuri organizations and associations and with the participation of political parties so that we can reach a solution to end the four-year conflict.
The communist leader also demanded early elections because of their importance, the official SUNA reported.
Nugud said in a press conference held in the capital of South Darfur state, Nyala, yesterday that there is a problem with the electoral process, due to the absence of laws and regulations governing the electoral process, as well as the lack of agreement on how women and community groups will participate, adding that elections need money.
He added that the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) is entering the elections while it is in power, possesses funds, and owns the organs of the State.
Nugud also pointed out that the ruling party has not issued a resolution or presented a clear view for the funding of the elections.
He confirmed the Communist Party’s support of the people of Darfur to resolve the crisis, in addition to providing humanitarian assistance and he denied the existence of any relationship between Abd-al-Wahid Muhammad Nur and the Communist Party.
The communist leader called on the tribes in Darfur to denounce racism and embark on a road of tolerance and amnesty so that Darfur can enjoy peace.
