SPLM says keen to convince SLM leader to join Darfur peace process
August 9, 2007 (KHARTOUM) – A SPLM minister in the federal government said today that his party is keen to convince a Darfur rebel leader to participate in peace process to end the ongoing conflict.
The Cabinet Affairs Minister, Deng Alor, said that the government welcomes every help to achieve peace in Darfur, affirming that Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) would exert all efforts to persuade Abdul-Wahid Mohammed Nour, to join the peace process.
Alor made this statement following a meeting with the British and French Ambassadors in Khartoum. The mister reviewed with the two envoys the outcome of the recent Arusha meeting, the ongoing implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and Sudan’s acceptance of the Security Council’s resolution 1769.
He said that he reviewed with the two ambassadors the issue of Abyie and the forces issue, stressing that stability of the relation between the two partners (the National Congress and the SPLM) is important for the democratic transformation, stability and peace in the country.
He said that they will work to convince those rejecting the hybrid operation, affirming their concern with the homeland and its stability which begins from Darfur.
The minister stressed the support of the SPLM to the stance of the President of the Republic and the Government of National Unity with regard to the consent over the hybrid operation.
