Sudan complains to UN over Eritrean “support” for opposition
KHARTOUM, Jan 21, 2004 (SUNA) — The UN Security Council has accepted the complaint forwarded by Sudan against Eritrea as the document of the 58th session of the UN General Assembly, which lies under the item “Measures to Combat International Terrorism”, said Minister of External Relations Dr Mustafa Uthman Isma’il.
In a press statement on Wednesday, the minister said the complaint had become a document before the UN General Assembly and therefore acts played by Eritrea in support of the Sudanese opposition would be discussed under the international measures to combat international terrorism.
Dr Isma’il pointed out that the Sudanese government would provide the Security Council and the other concerned organs with all the information regarding its complaint against Eritrea.
Meanwhile, he said that Sudan had delivered another complaint against Eritrea to the African Union [AU] and this was supported by the required documents, adding that this issue had been discussed during the recent visit of the chairman of the Commission of the African Union to Sudan.
The foreign minister said Sudan had called for a meeting of the AU’s Committee for the Solution of Conflicts, so that Sudan could submit its documents regarding its complaint against Eritrea.
